The clock ticks towards a potential turning point in the Ukraine-Russia conflict as US negotiators engage in a high-stakes meeting with President Putin in Moscow. This encounter, spanning the night, aimed to negotiate an end to Russia's prolonged invasion of Ukraine, which has now stretched beyond three years.
In a statement, Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov revealed that the talks were comprehensive and productive, emphasizing Moscow's stance that its territorial ambitions must be met for a peace agreement. Ushakov, present during the meeting with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, asserted that Russia would maintain its military efforts until its objectives are realized.
But here's where it gets controversial: Just hours prior, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly criticized his European allies for their allegedly sluggish and disjointed response to Russia's invasion. Zelenskyy's frustration was directed at what he perceived as a lack of unity and urgency in supporting Ukraine's defense.
Ushakov disclosed that the US negotiators briefed Putin on President Donald Trump's recent meeting with Zelenskyy in Davos, as well as previous discussions with Ukrainian and European officials. Both Zelenskyy and Trump characterized the Davos meeting as productive, with Trump suggesting that both leaders are eager for a resolution and are willing to make concessions.

The US delegation, including Witkoff, Kushner, and Josh Gruenbaum, a senior adviser on Trump's Board of Peace, now look ahead to further discussions.
Zelenskyy announced that trilateral talks between the US, Ukraine, and Russia are scheduled to commence on Friday in the United Arab Emirates. He emphasized the need for Russia to be prepared for compromises, not just Ukraine, in the pursuit of peace.
Ushakov confirmed Russia's participation in the UAE talks, led by military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov. Additionally, he revealed that Putin's envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, will engage in separate economic discussions with Witkoff in Abu Dhabi.
