Sligo Summer Theatre 2026: Hawk’s Well’s Packed Lineup for All Ages (2026)

Sligo's Hawk's Well Theatre is gearing up for a summer of cultural extravaganza, and I, as an avid theatregoer and cultural enthusiast, couldn't be more excited. This year's program is a testament to the theatre's commitment to showcasing local talent and providing a diverse range of performances for all ages. What makes this particularly fascinating is the theatre's ability to blend traditional and contemporary art forms, creating a unique and captivating experience for its audience.

One thing that immediately stands out is the theatre's focus on community engagement. The Hawk's Well Theatre, as a 'Theatre for the People', aims to present a diverse program that reflects the local community and provides a platform for every voice to be heard. This is evident in the upcoming summer program, which features a strong emphasis on showcasing the remarkable talent within the Hawk's Well community.

From local to touring artists, free lunchtime events, workshops, and festivals, there truly is something for everyone. Season highlights include Hawk's Well Productions' 'A Night In November' and 'The Last Five Years', as well as an hour-long adaptation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy 'Romeo & Juliet' by Shine productions, Hawk's Well's theatre company of actors with disabilities. What many people don't realize is that these productions not only showcase the talent of the performers but also reflect Hawk's Well's commitment to collaborating with local artists at the highest professional level while creating ambitious, resonant theatre for their audiences.

In May, the theatre will celebrate the incredible talent within the Hawk's Well community with 'Show Up and Show Off', their annual showcase where participants from their creative workshops take to the stage to show off their skills. Also, 'Shirley Valentine', starring Norma Sheahan, will hit the stage. This play, winner of the Olivier Award for Best Comedy and a Tony Award for Best Play, continues to resonate powerfully with audiences today. Then, from the pen of Marie Jones, writer of the global hit 'Stones in His Pockets', comes 'A Night In November', starring Bob Kelly and directed by John Carty.

As the summer program unfolds, the theatre will continue to showcase the incredible line-up of showcases from local performing art schools, including Music Generation Gala, Teenage Theme Night, Sarah Middleton Beat-It Dance School, Lisa Cooper Dance Academy, Chapel Lane School of Performing Arts, North Leitrim Dance, and Michelle Bell's School of Dance. Free Lunchtime at the Well series will continue every Wednesday from May to August, with these events being livestreamed from the Hawk's Well foyer so you can watch from anywhere in the world.

In June, Hawk's Well Theatre will present 'The Last Five Years', which charts the highs, lows, and crossed wires of a couple navigating love alongside individual dreams. After a five-year rest from touring and due to phenomenal demand, '3 Hail Mary's' by the Crokey Hill Players is back – alive and kicking! Celebrate Bloomsday with 'Blooming Ulysses', a hilarious and highly acclaimed one-man show of Joyce's masterpiece, written and performed by Gerry Farrell. The same month sees 'The Kings of the Kilburn High Road' by Jimmy Murphy performed by local group Pure Mule Productions.

In July, H.O.Q.I.A. - Heck Of a Quality Inspection Assured – presents a new play by local playwright and actor Gerry Farrell. 'Bureaucracy' competes with real care, and staff feel hard done. This great evening of laughter and fun, with some food for thought and reflection, is sure to be a highlight of the summer program.

The Hawk's Well Theatre's summer program is a testament to the theatre's commitment to providing a diverse range of performances for all ages. From local to touring artists, free lunchtime events, workshops, and festivals, there truly is something for everyone. So, if you're looking for a cultural extravaganza this summer, be sure to check out the Hawk's Well Theatre's program and experience the magic for yourself!
